Independent Living Admission Criteria

Williamsburg Landing’s independent living residences are not designed or intended to be staffed environments1. Residents moving into an independent living residence will be asked to provide Williamsburg Landing with information to assure that they can appropriately and safely function in an independent living environment. To the extent a resident requires assistance to achieve a safe and adequate level of function, such assistance will be provided or arranged by the resident, and will be at the resident’s expense. To ensure an appropriate level of function, Williamsburg Landing will consider:

Cognition: Applicant will be able to manage or make provision for the proper handling of personal business affairs; applicant will be alert and oriented as evidenced by satisfactory completion of standardized cognitive testing; applicant will display appropriate social behavior.

Functional Status: Applicant will be able to accomplish activities of daily living independently or have in place provision for assistance; will be able to bathe and manage all aspects of personal hygiene including management of incontinence at a socially acceptable level; will be able to maintain the living unit in a safe and sanitary condition.

Applicant will meet requirements of Medical Review Process. The information from this process will assist Williamsburg Landing in assessing the Admission Criteria.

The evaluation of information pertinent to the foregoing criteria will be undertaken prior to approval of the application for residence. In appropriate cases, Williamsburg Landing utilizes an Admissions Review Team, comprised of medical, marketing, financial and administrative members, to jointly review and evaluate applications. It is the obligation of the applicant to provide all information requested on a timely basis and to provide authorization for disclosure to Williamsburg Landing of any requested information.

1. “Staffed environments” are environments in which employed staff are on regular duty to provide assistance with activities of daily living and other personal services for residents. Assisted living and nursing units are staffed for such help; the independent living units are not.
